The beginning of commercial air travel really took off with the venerable DC-3 which was converted into the C-47 Gooney Bird during WWII. This amazing aircraft was a reliable bird that streamlined air travel. Capital Airlines served in the eastern, southern, southeastern, and midwestern United States. It eventually was purchased by United.
